A HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED community event has announced that it is to support a number of local chairities.
Newquay Beer Festival, organised by Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club takes place at Hendra Holiday Park on the 20 and 21 September. Proceeds from the charity event will support Cornwall Air Ambulance, amongst other causes.
Lions President Phil Bunt said: “We’re very proud to be in a position to help support Cornwall Air Ambulance with our charity beer festival in September. We already have a great relationship with the charity, and are always happy to support this vital Cornish service whenever we can.”
Susie Smith, Cornwall Air Ambulance Head of Fundraising said ‘We are delighted that the Newquay Towan Blystra Lions have decided to continue their support for Cornwall Air Ambulance by choosing us as one of the beneficiaries of the Newquay Beer Festival.
“The group have been supporting us for over a year now and last year very kindly funded the purchase of a video laryngoscope which has now become an invaluable piece of equipment on board the helicopter, allowing our paramedics to look down the throats of patients having trouble breathing.
“We do not receive any central government funding to keep our air ambulance flying and support from groups such as the Newquay Towan Blystra Lions is absolutely vital in helping us to raise the £2m a year we need to keep our helicopter flying.”
Susie added: “We do hope that as many of our supporters will head to the festival and raise a glass knowing that they are helping to support the charity, although we always promote the message of enjoying alcohol responsibly”
The event will see dozens of real ales, together with ciders and lager in a purpose-built festival village. There will also be entertainment, and also camping available on-site.
Tickets are already on sale, and Lion Phil Bunt said the event provided great value for anyone that chooses to come: “A quite amazing deal has been organised for those wishing to have a couple of days away in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
“Festival tickets are just £6 a day, and CAMRA members can also benefit from further discounts. Campers, caravaners and motorhomers can stay on-site at the Hendra Holiday Park, where the event takes place, for as little as £6 per pitch, per night.”
Phil continued: “There’s entertainment and food available on-site too with Hendra’s famous indoor and outdoor swimming pools and other attractions there right on your doorstep with special reduced entry prices if you want to use them.”
