LOOKING for an idea which will really delight Dad on Father’s Day? Well if, like most Dads, he likes a beer and is someone who believes in helping others, this might well fit the bill.
Newquay Beer Festival, which takes place on 22-24 September this year, is a charity event in its fourth year run by Towan Blystra Lions and it relies on the generosity of sponsors to raise thousands of pounds each year for local good causes.
One of the donation opportunities is sponsoring a barrel and this means that one of the many dozens of real ales at the festival is prominently labeled with the name of the sponsor or a photo of a person who is being honoured or remembered.
In addition the sponsors get a 25-word write up in the colour festival programme alongside a picture of the person being honoured, two three-day passes to the festival and two complimentary pints of beer per person on first arrival plus the details of the sponsorship on the festival website.
Lions Secretary, Phil Bunt, said: “As well as the dozens of businesses who support us each year, we’ve noticed that personal sponsorship has become very popular with quite a number of barrels being sponsored for someone special.
“In particular, several people have chosen to remember someone who can’t be there in person with them at the festival, having possibly passed away or, for one individual last year, who was working abroad.
“Birthdays are also very popular and so, with Father’s Day coming up, we thought we’d bring this option to attention as it’s a great chance to give Dad something a bit special as a present this year. Being able to see a smiling face of someone special at the end of a barrel of beer does make it feel like they are there in spirit, whether they can be there to enjoy it or not.”
Sponsoring a barrel costs £95 and booking the barrel sponsorship. Providing any Father’s Day orders are received before 9 June, a certificate of sponsorship will be forwarded to enable it to be presented as a gift.
After that date it can still be emailed. Details of the wording required, photo to be used on the barrel and in the programme etc. will be arranged with the person ordering about a month before the festival.
